AI + cloud infrastructure

AI and hyperscale data centres.

Peterborough should be part of the conversation about Canada’s next AI and cloud infrastructure projects.

We welcome interest from AI providers, hyperscale cloud operators and data-centre developers in purpose-built facilities, leased capacity and phased campuses in Peterborough City and County.

Point Tupper: a strong example for smaller regions.

Point Tupper’s planned campus and signed AI tenant agreement are a strong example of major data-centre development advancing in a smaller region. The Cape Breton project gives communities such as Peterborough a concrete Canadian example to point to.

On 16 October 2026, Reuters reported that Anthropic had signed a lease with EverWind for data-centre capacity at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia—its first Canadian data-centre agreement.[137]

EverWind’s announcement describes a proposed campus at its existing Cape Breton industrial site: 95 MW initially and 420 MW at full development, with more than C$8 billion planned for the campus and C$2 billion for wind projects.[136]

This is a signed customer agreement for a planned development. An AI customer can be involved before the facility is built.

Two routes to investment.

AI providers as customers.

Point Tupper demonstrates a model in which an AI provider leases capacity from a developer. For Peterborough, we welcome discussions about an anchor tenant for a new facility or a dedicated AI-computing project.[137]

Hyperscale cloud operators.

Large cloud operators can also develop and operate facilities. Microsoft describes building and operating data centres in Ontario and Québec, working with utilities and supporting local skills and suppliers.[138]

We want Peterborough considered for this type of investment.

A Peterborough project, at the right scale.

Our local case includes industrial buildings and land, documented carrier networks, and technical education at Fleming and Trent.[26, 28, 41, 42, 46, 56, 111] We support both smaller facilities and multi-megawatt developments, with scope set by the site and the customer.

Our priorities are local skilled work, responsible electricity connections, clear cooling and water specifications, and community benefits. Explore the property notes, electricity infrastructure, cooling examples and local career pathways.

AI providers and hyperscale operators can participate in developing or committing to a facility. Network platforms and Internet exchanges add services once a building and suitable carrier connectivity are in place. Read about the interconnection opportunity.
